Description
The Linux-based Maemo platform is the software that powers mobile devices such as the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. To make the Maemo platform even more powerful, we at the Maemo SW entity in Devices R&D are now looking for people to take it to the next level as part of the applications and platform development teams. We aim to extend the platform’s capabilities as software for innovative communication and Internet devices; also by adding a Qt-based application development environment to complement the existing GTK+.
To help us in this cutting edge work, we are currently looking for an experienced software developer to join us in Helsinki, Finland. Your primary responsibilities will be developing our Linux components and maintaining them for Maemo. Our team is responsible for delivering systemwide services to the software platform including energy management and system control. In other words, the team is responsible for use times, battery charging, user profiles, alarm service, boot & shutdown, system state management, thermal management and time management. All of these areas are crucial to the functionality of the platform and affect a wide range of other subsystems and components. Your part of the work could also include following upstream projects and taking new versions into use as well as sending patches upstream.
Qualifications
You have a Master’s degree in Software Engineering or another relevant educational degree combined with strong experience in product development. In addition, you have 5 years of software development experience in Linux low-level application software. Previous experience in and contributions to open source community work is required along with proficiency in Debian packaging and git version control. We will also appreciate familiarity with Qt and C++. To express yourself and your ideas efficiently, you are fluent in written and spoken English and possess good communication skills. On top of this, you are able to function both independently and as part of a team and your dedication to quality drives you to seek opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Linux Core Technical Project Manager/ Scrum

To make the Maemo platform even more powerful, we at the Maemo SW entity in Devices R&D are now looking for people to take it to the next level as part of the applications and platform development teams. We aim to extend the platform’s capabilities as software for innovative communication and Internet devices; also by adding a Qt-based application development environment to complement the existing GTK+.
The Maemo SW Core team in Oulu is now looking for a technical project manager / scrum master to lead core area projects in Oulu and are also ready to participate in actual software development work in the area. The core projects include tasks related to bootloader, linux driver development, HW verification and production testing.
You have prior technical project leadership experience and are familiar with Linux internals, such as linux kernel, bootloaders and low-level libraries and tools. Prior knowledge of Nokia’s tools and methods is appreciated. Experience in product development and interaction with open source communities is a definite plus. Experience with the techniques used in agile software development (e.g. scrum, unit testing, continuous integration) is also considered an advantage. You also have typically 8-12 years relevant experience in SW development work and have a university degree in computer science or related field.

Linux Core pre-integrator and error manager

To make the Maemo platform even more powerful, we at the Maemo SW entity in Devices R&D are now looking for people to take it to the next level as part of the applications and platform development teams. We aim to extend the platform’s capabilities as software for innovative communication and Internet devices; also by adding a Qt-based application development environment to complement the existing GTK+.
The Maemo SW Core team in Oulu is now looking to strengthen its competence with the addition of a Linux Core pre-integrator and error manager. In this interesting and challenging role your tasks will include debian package packaging and integration, building and sending packages to the System Integration, as well configuration and error management.
In order to join our team, you are familiar with Debian packaging and Debian packaging policy. You are also familiar with Debian package repositories and proficient in commonly used open source version control systems used in Linux environment. You are fluent in Linux shell scripts and preferably also experienced with Linux system administration tasks. Besides being hardworking, you are also keen to learn new methods and technologies.
Experience in product development and interaction with open source communities is a definite plus. C programming experience and proficiency in configuring and building linux kernels for different hardware platforms is a definite advantage.
